Mr Reeves – Our Boxing Champion

On Saturday 14th of May, Mr Reeves our head of Year 10, competed in the Boxxer Series -Cruiserweights, a one-night elimination boxing tournament.

Starting with 8 fighters, the evening consisted of 4 quarter-final fights, 2 semi-final rounds and 1 final.

Mr Reeves progressed through the Quarter final round and dominated the semi-final round with a Knock Out, meaning that he advanced to the final against another tough opponent, Ellis Zorrow.

Having shown fantastic footwork, great technique and resilience, it just wasn’t quite enough to be crowned cruiserweight champion but, in our eyes, he is already a champion.

He made us all very proud as we shouted at our screens and cheered him on from home. Our headteacher, Gemma Cottingham, was at Victoria Warehouse on the night of the fight to represent Parkwood at side of the ring alongside Mr Reeves’ wife, Carla.

Mr Reeves dedicated the fight to his Year 10’s who have supported him through his boxing journey. He emphasises to his students; ‘It is important to note that violence is not the answer and boxing is disciplined and it’s self-defence at the worst because it’s solely competitive.’
