GCSE Examinations Information

6 April 2020

Dear parent or carer,

In light of the government’s announcement that GCSE and A-level examinations will not be taking place this year, I am writing to reassure you that we will be doing everything in our power to ensure our students are awarded the qualifications they deserve and have worked so hard for.

Whilst I am sure you will agree that above GCSEs and A-level exams, our priority must be to keep our children safe, we are sensitive to the disappointment that many of our students are feeling given the time and effort they have put into preparing for their end of year assessments.

The government has confirmed that schools and academies will be asked to make an objective judgement of the grade they believe a student would have achieved had they sat their exams this year.

We will be asked to submit those grades directly to exam boards after Easter, with final results released to students in August. We are reassured by the government that grades awarded to students this year will have equal status to the grades awarded in previous years.

All of this means that it is important for our students to understand that their hard work has not been in vain, and that the knowledge and skill they have accumulated will be invaluable as they progress onto the next stage of their lives.

We are clear that this year’s students should not face any disadvantage as a consequence of these extraordinary circumstances, so we will be working closely with them and you to ensure they get all the support they need. It is our priority to ensure that none of our students face barriers as they move into further and higher education, apprenticeships or the world of work.

I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of the academy.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Millward
