Women in Sport event at Sheffield College

A taste of College life for Parkwood Girls

Last week 11 Parkwood students had the privilege of visiting Sheffield College for their “Women in Sport Taster event” as part of our school careers programme. The event included a tour of facilities, chance to participate in gym fitness tests, basketball coaching from elite players and participate in a high energy dance routine. Careers Leader Caroline, said “It was great to see all our students get stuck into each activity with enthusiasm, and gain a real insight into what life at college would be like”. The students heard detail of course options from course leaders and got to chat with current students about day to day life on the sports courses.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive:

100% of students said the event met their expectations

100% of students would like to visit a similar event again

When asked what they enjoyed, students responded:

“It was interactive and got to go at your own pace. The college students would ask you if understood and would explain it in another way if not.”, and “I enjoyed this event because we got to try out new things such as sport and dance” The event finished with the chance to watch the Sheffield College Elite women’s basketball team in one of there competitive matches and everyone was blown away by their skills!
